Max, Red-tailed Hawk: Max found his way to the Wildlife Center on February 21, 2002. Upon admission he had a broken wing. After extensive X-rays, it was discovered that his bones are not as hard as they should be, making them easily breakable. Facts on Red-tailed Hawks: Red-tailed Hawks live 10-20 years in the wild. They hunt throughout the day for rats, rabbits, squirrels and mice. They inhabit open country, woodlands, parks, neighborhoods, and can be often seen perching on the street lamps on the Parkways. Migrating Red-tailed Hawks spend their winters in Panama. Scientific Name: Buteo jamaicensis
