Fluffy, Barred Owl:  Fluffy made his way to the Wildlife Center on February 28, 2003.  He was found laying on the roadside in Harmar. He had sustained head trauma, which led to the loss of one eye, and limited vision in the other.  Because he does not see well enough to hunt, Fluffy cannot be released.

Facts on Barred Owls:  Barred Owls can be found in the woodlands of PA.  They are most famous for their call, “Who cooks for you, who cooks for you all?”.  A Barred Owl has brown eyes, unlike most owls that have yellow eyes.  They are nocturnal, and hunt at night for small mammals.

Listen: Hear the sounds a barred owl makes.
Scientific Name: Strix varia

Fluffy is an Animal Ambassador for our Animals of the Night and Regal Raptor education programs. We also offer a general program on Wildlife Rehabilitation.
